Dana White Critiques Oscar De La Hoya’s Financial Struggles
It seems the tension between Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya is still palpable. At a recent Zuffa Boxing event, White made some pointed remarks about De La Hoya’s financial woes, claiming he’s $23 million in debt and might need to get inventive to tackle it.
During a ringside interview, White, amid a bit of drama, quipped, “Oscar is on a sinking ship and he won’t shut up. He’s going to have to strip down to his panties and stockings and ask OnlyFans to pay his rent.” Clearly, White doesn’t hold back; he noted, “My son is out of money. That ship is sinking fast.”
For context, De La Hoya, once a legendary six-division boxing champion, now oversees rival brand Golden Boy Promotions. Reports suggest he owes $23 million on a commercial real estate loan in downtown Los Angeles, which has entered default.
In an attempt to avoid losing the property at 626 Wilshire Blvd, De La Hoya is seeking a loan modification. Interestingly, he has a history that adds a layer to the narrative—back in 2007, he was photographed in fishnet stockings and underwear. Fast forward to 2011, and he admitted the photos were authentic.
The rivalry between White and De La Hoya has been longstanding, marked by public jabs and criticisms. De La Hoya was once dismissive of the UFC, calling it a “poor sideshow,” while White has expressed concerns about boxing’s declining fanbase, attributing it to mismanagement by promoters.
There’s no shortage of drama here; De La Hoya has even criticized White over a personal incident involving his wife on New Year’s Eve 2022.
In addition to these tensions, De La Hoya is facing legal issues from one of his fighters, Virgil Ortiz Jr., who left Golden Boy Promotions over difficult negotiations. Ortiz’s camp claims he has been treated unfairly, and De La Hoya has taken to social media to assert his position, stating, “As our lawyers have made clear, you don’t negotiate Virgil fights. I do.”
Currently, Ortiz is suing Golden Boy for breach of contract, arguing that the situation has damaged his chances of fighting Jaron “Boots” Ennis and compromised his earning potential. On top of that, Golden Boy is grappling with an expiring broadcast contract with DAZN, which further complicates its tough financial landscape.
