Ed Martin Steps Down from DOJ Weaponization Task Force
Ed Martin will no longer be at the helm of the Department of Justice’s Weaponization Task Force.
President Donald Trump had nominated Martin for the U.S. attorney position for the District of Columbia in May 2025, but he did not secure sufficient support in the Senate. Alongside this, Trump also appointed him as pardon attorney at the Justice Department.
“President Trump has appointed Ed Martin to be his pardon attorney, and Ed continues to do an excellent job in that role,” a spokesperson from the Justice Department stated to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Martin has not responded to requests for comments yet.
The Weaponization Task Force focuses on various issues, like the prosecution of Trump by former special counsel Jack Smith, collaborations between local and federal prosecutors against Trump, and an investigation into “improper investigative tactics” during the Jan. 6 prosecution, as detailed in a memo from Attorney General Pam Bondi. The group was also established to look into matters such as guidelines from the Biden Justice Department regarding parents protesting at school board meetings, the prosecution of pro-life advocates under the Freedom of Clinic Admissions Act (FACE), and the targeting of whistleblowers.
In May, Martin expressed to DCNF his interest in investigating bar associations that target conservative attorneys.
