NFL Responds to Emails Between Giants Co-Owner and Jeffrey Epstein
On Monday, the NFL issued a statement after it surfaced that Steve Tisch, co-owner of the New York Giants, had been in communication with Jeffrey Epstein.
The emails were disclosed last week as part of the Justice Department’s release of over 3 million documents tied to investigations of human trafficking and child sexual offenses. This announcement coincides with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s upcoming annual press conference before the Super Bowl.
“The league is aware of the report and Steve’s reaction,” the NFL stated. “Our office will conduct an investigation to ascertain the facts.”
Reports indicated that some emails between Tisch and Epstein included discussions about women. For instance, an April 2023 email thread had Tisch inquiring if an unnamed woman was a “professional or civilian.” Epstein replied that his team had been in contact with her, mentioning she expressed interest in seeing a play with Tisch but was “blown away by the age difference.”
In another exchange from June 2013, Tisch and Epstein appeared to arrange a potential meeting in New York.
Tisch’s family holds approximately 45% ownership of the Giants, and he took the helm of the team in 2005, following his father’s acquisition of a majority share in 1991.
Epstein, who was found dead in his jail cell in Manhattan on August 10, 2019, was ruled a suicide. He had faced up to 45 years in prison for sex trafficking minors.
Once the emails were revealed, Tisch released a statement via the Giants. “We dated briefly, exchanging emails about adult women, and we also discussed movies, philanthropy, and investing. I never accepted his invitation, and I never went to his island. As we all know now, he is a terrible person and I deeply regret dating him,” Tisch remarked.
At the upcoming press conference, Goodell is expected to field questions about Tisch’s communications with Epstein and whether any NFL owners could face repercussions from this situation.
