Reports indicate that Savannah Guthrie’s sister, Annie, was likely the last person to see their missing mother just hours before she disappeared from her home. Annie mentioned to authorities in Arizona that there were no apparent “red flags” during the dinner she shared with Nancy, 84, on January 31, before they returned to their Catalina Foothills residence valued at around $1 million.
Law enforcement is treating Nancy’s case as a potential kidnapping, with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos expressing concerns that she may have been taken against her will.
Nancy was reported missing at noon on Sunday after failing to attend church, although Nanos emphasized that inquiries should have started earlier. “The family brought her home from dinner on Saturday, January 31st, around 9:30 to 9:45 p.m. So we should probably, I guess, start the search even at 9 or 8:30 p.m.,” he stated.
She has difficulty walking more than 50 meters independently and depends on crucial medication; police had previously alerted that missing her medication for 24 hours could be life-threatening.
According to reports, Nancy’s cell phone, car, and wallet were left behind, and investigators have collected DNA evidence from the scene, which is now being analyzed in Phoenix.
Nanos noted that while DNA samples have been taken, the results may take some time to process.
As time passes—nearly 48 hours since Nancy went missing—Nanos stressed the urgency of the situation. “The longer this drags on, the more danger she faces,” he warned.
In the search efforts, homicide detectives, drones, search dogs, volunteers, and Border Patrol agents are all actively involved; it’s not typical for homicide teams to join in missing persons investigations.
On Monday, Savannah was absent from her show and took to social media to express gratitude for the prayers received.
In her Instagram message, she mentioned, “We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison with love and hope. We believe in goodness.” She asked followers to continue praying.
She also thanked everyone for their prayers for their mother, describing Nancy as “a woman of deep faith, a good and faithful servant,” urging others to join in prayer for her safe return.
Neighbors of Nancy are being asked to review their CCTV footage in an effort to assist the police investigation.
