FBI Director Kash Patel supports the Fulton County raid despite backlash

FBI’s Raid in Georgia: Director’s Defense

FBI Director Kash Patel stood firm in support of the FBI’s recent operation at a polling site in Fulton County, Georgia, during an interview on “Special Report.” He explained to Fox News anchor Bret Baier that federal agents had “obtained evidence pursuant to the terms of the search warrant.” He maintained that the operation conducted last week was standard procedure, emphasizing that the focus of the search was a warehouse in Fulton County.

On January 28, the FBI seized ballots, voter registrations, and election documents from the Fulton County Elections Hub and Operations Center, as part of an investigation related to the 2020 election. Patel asserted that there was “reasonable cause” to warrant the search at the facility in Georgia, which had been a tight contest between President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden.

While Patel refrained from discussing specific details of the still-sealed search warrant, he provided insight into how it was obtained. He explained, “We did the same thing there that we do in any criminal case or investigation. We gathered evidence and presented that evidence to a federal judge. The judge found probable cause and issued the search warrant with its parameters.”

When Baier pointed out the unusual involvement of the president at this “investigative level,” Patel mentioned a phone call Trump made to FBI agents after the raid, expressing gratitude for their work. “It was great to hear from the commander in chief,” he said, noting that Trump thanked the agents personally for their efforts, a gesture he deemed important, albeit unusual compared to past administrations.

The conversation shifted to the role of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who oversees the ongoing FBI investigation. Although Baier inquired whether her presence indicated an international angle to the case, Patel did not elaborate but expressed satisfaction with the investigative team’s involvement. According to a letter obtained by Fox News Digital, Gabbard noted that Trump had “specifically directed” her to attend the FBI raid and described her role in observing the execution of the search warrant related to a possible investigation.

Gabbard mentioned in her statement that her presence was enacted under her legal authority to manage issues around election security, including counterintelligence and cybersecurity. She oversees various divisions, including the FBI’s Intelligence/Counterintelligence Division, as part of her role.
