An individual with a troubling history of criminal activities was arrested Tuesday in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old girl at a Stuyvesant Town apartment last week, as reported by authorities.
Jermaine Parham, 33, was apprehended by New York State Police and members of the NYPD assigned to the New Jersey Sheriff’s Regional Fugitive Task Force in upstate New York following a disturbing incident that took place on January 29 in Manhattan’s Stuytown Village.
According to police reports, Parham allegedly approached and sexually assaulted the young girl around 11:45 a.m. in a building located at First Avenue and First Avenue Loop in a private housing area in the East Village.
Following the assault, he reportedly stole her cell phone and fled the scene. The girl was later taken to a hospital for care.
Authorities indicate that Parham has an extensive criminal background, which includes over 20 arrests and several outstanding bench warrants.
His most recent arrest occurred on January 8 for allegedly stealing about $1,835 worth of goods from a CVS in Midtown Manhattan. After failing to appear in court, a bench warrant was issued for him.
There are also multiple prior arrests for drug store robberies across the city.
Sources mentioned that he had been sentenced to 30 days in jail for a knifepoint robbery at a Bronx CVS in November 2025.
Now, he faces a range of new charges including rape, robbery, attempted assault, predatory sexual assault, kidnapping, five counts of weapons possession, and six counts of sexual abuse, according to authorities.
The Stuy Town complex, where the grueling attack happened, has its own public safety office with officers on duty around the clock, and offers various amenities such as fitness centers, playgrounds, and an ice rink, with one-bedroom apartments starting at a staggering $4,873.
The administration of the luxury village issued a statement to residents following Parham’s arrest, promising to enhance public safety measures and conduct building inspections in response to the “terrible incident.”
“We’ve just learned from the NYPD that a suspect has been captured, and we value their dedication and ongoing partnership with the city,” the memo from Stuytown states.
It continues, “While this is a positive update, our community is still reeling from this incident, and we are understandably outraged. As parents and residents who have raised children in this community and witnessed the impact on local schools, we are all deeply affected. Our hearts are heavy, and we share your outrage.”
The message assured residents of ongoing public safety patrols and the installation of call buttons for local safety offices at all building entrances.
