Harrison Ford Contemplates Retirement
Harrison Ford seems to be considering stepping back from acting. During a recent Apple TV press event in Los Angeles, the 83-year-old actor reflected on his role in “Shrinking,” where he portrays a therapist for Parkinson’s disease patients. He mentioned that he would feel satisfied if this role turned out to be his final performance.
“Where do we go from here? The tools we have and the idea behind this series allow for impactful work. If this is what we have, that’d be enough for me,” Ford remarked during a discussion with his co-stars.
Ford described this project as a unique experience after years in the industry. “It’s something really special. It nurtures my spirit and gives a sense of importance to our work. I’ve been searching for that, and I’m grateful to find it here,” he said. His comments were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience of around 300.
Ford’s co-star, executive producer, and panel moderator Ashley Nicole Black acknowledged the moment, stating, “There was no better way to wrap up this panel.”
In “Shrinking,” Ford shares the screen with Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, and several others. His role as Dr. Paul Rose earned him an Emmy nomination last year, along with nominations for a Golden Globe and other awards.
The upcoming season will feature Michael J. Fox, who, like Ford’s character, also deals with Parkinson’s disease in real life. Ford expressed some apprehension about portraying a character with this condition, understanding the weight of that responsibility. “I always felt it was crucial to depict that part of the story accurately,” he said.
However, he also highlighted the enjoyable aspects of working with Fox. “Michael is such a generous, incredible person. I didn’t know him before, but collaborating on this show was a remarkable experience. He has a commanding presence and a great sense of humor,” Ford remarked.
Recently, Fox shared that Ford’s portrayal on “Shrinking” moved him deeply. He noted, “I was surprised by how much he seemed to grasp about the disease. I saw my own experiences reflected in his eyes.” Ford had previously indicated that retiring wasn’t on his immediate agenda, noting, “It’s interesting that it takes an older actor to portray an older character.”
