Jill Biden Reflects on Divorce and Her Ex-Husband’s Legal Troubles
In her 2019 book, “Where the Light Enters,” Jill Biden opened up about the emotional turmoil she faced after her first marriage ended in divorce. Reports have identified her ex-husband, William “Bill” Stevenson, as the individual currently charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson.
Jill shared her parents’ example of everlasting love in her book, noting, “My parents loved each other until they passed away. Even as they grew older, they were playful, affectionate, honest, and loved each other unconditionally.” This deep-seated belief in the permanence of marriage left her feeling bewildered when her own relationship crumbled. “I was at a loss,” she wrote, reflecting on how quickly it felt like everything was slipping away.
She recounted how her perception of divorce was somewhat foreign at that time. “I don’t think I knew anyone who was divorced,” she mentioned, recalling how terrifying the thought was for her. It carried the sting of failure—something she had never really experienced up to that point.
During that painful time, she battled feelings of inadequacy and embarrassment. “I felt ugly, I felt inadequate, I was embarrassed, I was ashamed,” she said, expressing her internal struggles. “I went from feeling like I had everything to feeling shattered and alone.” Those moments left her questioning whether she could ever find love again or truly understand herself post-divorce.
Conversely, her second marriage to Joe Biden, which began in 1977, has been stable and enduring, marking nearly half a century together.
On another note, recent developments concerning Bill Stevenson’s legal issues show the New Castle County Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of his wife, Linda. They announced that the case has been referred to a grand jury after weeks of investigation.
The police indicated that an indictment has been issued against Stevenson, who is now facing first-degree murder charges, a stark contrast to the turmoil Jill Biden once faced in her personal life.
