Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford celebrate with their wives in Cabo

In the sports world, “Cabo” often symbolizes a disappointing end to a season rather than a pleasant retreat. However, for LA Rams head coach Sean McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford, it embodies a much-needed escape to relax and recharge after a long year.

With the team’s future uncertain following a crucial offseason, McVay, Stafford, their wives, and a few friends took a trip to the sunny beaches of Mexico to unwind.

Perhaps, if you’re McVay, you might also think about recruiting a top player while enjoying the sun.

There were rumors that Stafford considered retirement ahead of last season. After a tough defeat in the NFC Championship Game, it wouldn’t be surprising if the experienced quarterback, a likely Hall of Famer, chose to hang up his cleats for family time and other ventures.

Yet, Stafford just had what could be his best season. He’s in the running for the NFL MVP award, which is set to be revealed shortly. Plus, next year’s Super Bowl will take place at SoFi Stadium, in his hometown.

Even though returning would mean a substantial pay bump, it could also give him the kind of storybook ending athletes often dream about.

Adding Stafford to the mix keeps the Rams in the Super Bowl conversation. If they sort out their special teams, they might very well enter the new season as favorites.

Without Stafford, the team would still be good, but they’d struggle at the quarterback position and possibly fall behind others in the league.

It’s uncertain how everything will play out, but McVay seems determined to keep his star player around.
