Senator Mitch McConnell Hospitalized with Flu-Like Symptoms

Senator Mitch McConnell has been admitted to a hospital due to flu-like symptoms, raising fresh concerns about his health. His office confirmed this on Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson, the 83-year-old senator from Kentucky began feeling unwell over the weekend and decided to go to a local hospital on Monday “out of an abundance of caution.”

“His prognosis is positive and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving,” the spokesperson noted. “He is in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business.”

As a result of his health issues, McConnell was absent from Senate votes on both Monday and Tuesday.

Approaching his 84th birthday, McConnell announced last February that he would not seek reelection after his current term concludes in early 2027. This will end his more than 40-year tenure in the Senate, having first been elected in 1984.

In recent years, the senator has experienced multiple medical incidents, including two episodes in 2023 where he seemed to freeze while speaking. He also suffered a concussion last year after a fall at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, which briefly left him in a wheelchair.

Last year, there was footage of McConnell falling in a Capitol hallway while responding to a question about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities.

His challenges with mobility might be attributed to his childhood polio history.

McConnell holds the record as the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history, notably leading the Senate during Donald Trump’s first term. However, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), now 92, is the longest-serving active senator, having begun his tenure in 1981.

🚨 BREAKING: Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has once again been HOSPITALIZED. McConnell has experienced NUMEROUS medical episodes recently, freezing up, collapsing, and being unable to do his job. I sympathize with the Senator, but the Senate is NOT A NURSING HOME. Time to RESIGN,…
