White House Uses Classic ‘Sopranos’ Quote to Support Christopher Columbus Statue

Trump’s Columbus Statue Plan and White House Defends It

The White House referred to a famous line from “The Sopranos” to support President Donald Trump’s decision to place a statue of Christopher Columbus on the grounds. According to a report, the statue is set to be situated on the south side of the White House.

Press Secretary Davis Engle stated that Columbus is viewed as a hero in this administration. While he didn’t elaborate on the plans, the statement hinted that President Trump would continue to celebrate the explorer’s legacy. “In this White House, Christopher Columbus is a hero,” Engle said.

Trump’s advocacy for Columbus includes the reinstatement of Columbus Day, intended to honor Italian Americans, alongside the signing of the October Accord. He urged the public to recognize Columbus’s contributions. The declaration emphasizes, “On this Columbus Day, more than 500 years after Columbus arrived in the New World, we follow his example…” and it reflects on the courage and spirit of Columbus.

However, Trump’s position clashes with the efforts of some left-wing activists who favor recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day over Columbus Day. Historical accounts indicate that Columbus had adopted a young Native American during his journey to the Bahamas, further complicating the narrative around his legacy.
