White House Claims Success in Immigration Enforcement in Minnesota

On Wednesday, the White House emphasized that President Trump is delivering on his promise to enhance public safety, citing the arrest of over 4,000 individuals who are undocumented and have criminal records as part of Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis.

“The common-sense immigration policies from President Trump are yielding the security outcomes that Americans have been asking for, with more than 4,000 apprehensions of dangerous and criminal illegal aliens already made in Minnesota,” stated White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.

She further argued, “Democrats have opened our borders, allowing murderers, rapists, gang members, and other violent criminals to infiltrate our communities. President Trump is committed to reversing this damage and eliminating these threats from our country.”

Operation Metro Surge began its rigorous crackdown on illegal immigration in early December, particularly targeting violent offenders in the Twin Cities. The recent announcements come shortly after surpassing the 3,000 arrest milestone in mid-January.

A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security affirmed that federal agents would not retreat despite facing “coordinated violent attacks” against law enforcement in the nation. Tricia McLaughlin, an assistant secretary at DHS, commented, “We need sanctuary politicians to collaborate with us rather than releasing threats back onto our streets, where they can commit more crimes and create more victims. Our commitment to removing criminal illegal aliens from American neighborhoods remains unwavering.”

The announcement of the 4,000 arrests coincides with news that border czar Tom Homan would be reducing federal law enforcement officers in Minneapolis by 700, leaving around 2,000 personnel in the area.

Homan noted that this reduction was feasible due to improved cooperation between county jails and ICE, a sentiment reflected by the White House. Levitt stated, “Tom Homan’s decision to withdraw forces from Minneapolis today, on President Trump’s orders, builds on these achievements and the unprecedented collaboration from state and local officials in Minnesota.” She concluded with, “Collaborative efforts like this between elected officials and the President foster significant results in ensuring the safety of the American public.”
