Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Spending Scrutiny

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a progressive candidate for the Texas Senate, has come under scrutiny for her campaign spending, which exceeded $120,000 on luxury hotels, transportation, and private security in 2025.

Crockett, known for labeling former President Donald Trump as a “sophisticated con man,” filed reports with the Federal Election Commission showing that her campaign coffers allocated over $124,000 for lavish accommodations and services. Specifically, she spent about $32,685 on high-end hotels alone. Her Senate campaign, aimed at addressing a “system of greed,” kicked off in the last quarter of 2025, where she notably paid $11,841 for rooms at various upscale hotels like the Ritz-Carlton and the five-star West Hollywood Edition.

Additionally, her expenditures included roughly $11,738 on limousine and luxury car services throughout the year. Details from her financial filings reveal she paid more than $5,400 to a California-based luxury transportation service in the last quarter alone.

Private Security Expenditures

Interestingly, Crockett has spent nearly $80,000 on private security, marking this as her most significant expense despite her calls to defund police initiatives. About $30,000 of that security cost was accumulated in the final quarter of 2025.

In a previous statement from 2021, Crockett emphasized that the defunding movement aims to uplift communities by addressing the root causes of crime. It seems somewhat contradictory, given her current spending choices.

Since beginning her term in Congress in 2023, Crockett has stood out among Democrats for her sharp criticisms of the Trump administration and Republican leaders.

In early 2025, she faced backlash for incendiary comments, including a suggestion to “fire” Elon Musk from an administrative position and referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, as “Governor Hot Wheels.” She later claimed her words were misinterpreted.

Political Campaign and Controversies

As she campaigns, Crockett positions herself as a direct challenger to Trump. In a recent debate, she noted, “I think there’s enough to impeach,” alluding to Trump. She controversially equated his immigration policies to those used in Nazi Germany, further fueling her critics.

Crockett joined over 70 House Democrats in supporting articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, accusing her of various abuses of power and obstruction.

As the Texas Senate primary is set for March 3rd, the victorious candidate will face incumbent Sen. John Cornyn or other Republican contenders in the general election.
