Blackburn asks Roberts to investigate Justice Jackson's presence at the Grammys

Senator Calls for Investigation into Judge Jackson’s Grammy Attendance

Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee has urged Chief Justice John Roberts to look into Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s recent appearance at the Grammy Awards. This event was marked by a wave of anti-ICE sentiment from various celebrities and attendees.

Jackson attended the ceremony to narrate the audiobook version of her memoir, “The Lovely One,” but some critics feel she showed support for speakers who were critical of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a letter to Roberts, Blackburn pointed out that while justices do attend public events, it’s quite uncommon for a member of the Supreme Court to participate in occasions that promote what she describes as “far-left rhetoric.” She is concerned that Jackson’s actions might breach the Supreme Court’s code of conduct.

Blackburn, who is part of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has suggested that Jackson may need to recuse herself from certain cases to maintain the integrity and impartiality of the court. “To ensure fairness and uphold an independent federal judiciary, we believe it’s important to investigate Jackson’s attendance at this event and consider whether she should refrain from engaging in specific matters before the court,” she stated in her letter.

During the awards ceremony, attendees made headlines for wearing “ICE Out” lapel pins. Remarks such as “No one is illegal on stolen land” and “F-ICE” were also voiced by honorees, contributing to a politically charged atmosphere.

Jackson’s participation raises eyebrows because the Supreme Court is set to review cases linked to the Trump administration, especially those concerned with birthright citizenship and immigration policies.

In her letter, Blackburn pointed out a pattern in which Democrats and the media have labeled Republican-appointed judges as “corrupt” and “partisan.” She referenced a previous situation where other senators urged Roberts to ensure that Justice Samuel Alito’s wife recuses herself due to her political expressions.

“In contrast to the unfounded claims made against Justices Alito and Thomas, there are significant doubts about Judge Jackson’s involvement in these overtly political events and her capacity to remain unbiased on the Supreme Court,” Blackburn concluded.
