Actor Timothy Busfield Charged with Four Counts of Sexual Contact with a Child

Timothy Busfield Indicted on Child Sex Crimes

Timothy Busfield, an actor and television director, has been indicted by a grand jury in New Mexico on charges related to child sex crimes, bringing the case closer to trial.

Busfield, who has won an Emmy Award, is perhaps best known for his role as “Poindexter” and his work on shows like The West Wing. The indictment includes four counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor, as reported by local news.

According to the allegations, two boys accused Busfield of inappropriately touching them on the set of the Fox show The Cleaning Lady in Albuquerque over a period spanning late 2022 to early 2024.

One alleged victim stated in a forensic interview that Busfield had touched her inappropriately when she was just 7 years old. This reportedly happened multiple times between filming, as noted in the criminal complaint. Another boy indicated he experienced similar behavior at the age of eight, claiming this occurred several times as well.

A second child also reported inappropriate touching by Busfield but was hesitant to provide details, fearing potential repercussions, according to the complaint.

Less than a month after the indictment, Busfield was arrested following an investigation into the allegations. He had turned himself in to New Mexico authorities after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Prior to his surrender, Busfield denied the charges in a video statement. He expressed his determination to fight the allegations, calling them “terrible” and “lies.”

Meanwhile, Busfield’s attorney suggested that the accusations stemmed from a vendetta by the parents of the children, who faced setbacks in their television roles. However, during a court hearing, the Assistant District Attorney emphasized that the evidence against Busfield was credible and corroborated by medical findings and therapy reports.

The District Attorney for Bernalillo County expressed a commitment to ensuring justice for the victims, indicating that the case would proceed to trial under the Special Victims Unit.

Busfield, who is married to actress Melissa Gilbert, was booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center but has since been released on pretrial supervision. As of now, his next court date has not been set.
