How to view Day 2 of the Figure Skating Team Event at the 2026 Olympics

The moment has arrived for the Quad Gods to take to the ice.

The second day of team figure skating at the Winter Olympics is set to commence soon with the men’s singles short program. This will also mark the Olympic debut of Ilia Marinin, who has become one of the standout athletes for Team USA.

Known as the God of Quadruples, Marinin’s ability to execute quadruple jumps is unmatched. He stands out as the only male skater to successfully land a fully rotated quad axel and made history by performing seven quads in a single program. He will wrap up the first round with his short program titled “The Lost Crown.”

On the leaderboard, the U.S. team has a slight edge, sitting just two points behind Japan in second place. This follows a stellar performance by ice dance duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who secured first place, alongside Alisa Liu’s second-place finish in her short program.

Overview of the figure skating team competition

This team event, introduced in 2014, is the latest addition to Olympic figure skating. It resembles the gymnastics team event at the Summer Olympics, bringing together all four figure skating disciplines—men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs, and ice dance—into one medal event.

This year, 10 nations, including the gold and silver medalists from 2022 (the U.S. and Japan), are competing.

Scoring is based on placements rather than individual points. The top skater or pair earns 10 points for their team, with the second earning 9 points. After the first round—which includes rhythm dance and short programs—the five teams with the lowest points will be eliminated.

The second round will feature free dance and free skating from the top five pairs. Judging for this round will mirror that of the first round.

Medals will be awarded based on the final standings at the conclusion of the second round.
