Mike Bloomgren Joins Giants as Offensive Line Coach
John Harbaugh is making some significant moves with his coaching staff, and the latest addition is Mike Bloomgren, who has been confirmed as the new offensive line coach for the Giants.
Bloomgren, who’s 49, hasn’t previously worked with Harbaugh. Interestingly, last season, he spent his only year as an NFL offensive line coach on Kevin Stefanski’s staff with the Browns.
His NFL journey began in 2007 as an offensive assistant with the Jets under Eric Mangini, and he remained when Rex Ryan took over as coach in 2009. During his time with the Jets, he had the chance to work alongside notable offensive line coach Bill Callahan.
From 2011 to 2017, he transitioned to Stanford, where he took on various roles, including offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. His tenure there notably aligned with the emergence of Christian McCaffrey as a star player.
Afterward, he went on to coach at Rice University for seven years, but unfortunately, the Owls didn’t achieve any wins under his leadership, with a final record of 24 wins and 52 losses. This past season, he returned to the NFL to work with the Browns.
Bloomgren steps in to replace Carmen Bricillo, who had built a reputation as a popular and effective offensive line coach under Brian Daboll.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Giants’ offensive line had its best performance in several years in 2025, ranking ninth in the league. The lineup will feature returning starters like left tackle Andrew Thomas, left guard John Runyan Jr., and center John Michael Schmitz.
On the right side, Jermaine Elemunor and Greg Van Roten are set to become free agents. Meanwhile, Marcus Mbou had a solid rookie season as an offensive tackle, contributing on both sides.
In addition to Bloomgren, the Giants have also welcomed Addison Lynch as the defensive backs coach, who will work with new defensive coordinator Denard Wilson. Lynch has spent the last three years with the Broncos but was dismissed after the 2025 season by Sean Payton; he also has experience with the Chargers, Raiders, and Lions.
The key position still vacant on Harbaugh’s staff is the quarterbacks coach. It will be interesting to see what direction he takes next.
