Sen. Raphael Warnock Supports Don Lemon Amid Arrest Controversy
Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock took a stand alongside preachers and reporters on Wednesday, showing his support for Don Lemon as the controversy over Lemon’s arrest during anti-ICE protests continues.
During his appearance on Lemon’s show, Warnock stated, “If they want to see pastors arrested for defending journalists in their name, then I want to hear what they have to say.” He emphasized his discomfort with the idea of pastors facing arrest for advocating for journalists.
Lemon’s arrest occurred in January following an incident at a church on January 18. He asserts that his actions were protected under the First Amendment and that he was fulfilling his role as a journalist.
He raised a pertinent question during the discussion: “Why don’t you want to arrest journalists and protesters?” This was, I think, a critical point that many might resonate with.
Warnock further commented on the shared mission of preachers and journalists: “Our job is to seek the truth and tell the truth, which makes us all better.” It’s sort of a reminder about the important roles both play in society.
In addition, Warnock addressed the recent tragic deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Preti, both implicated in confrontations with ICE and Border Patrol agents. He expressed concern over how quickly these individuals were labeled negatively. “They immediately made Alex Preti into some kind of domestic terrorist,” he said, highlighting misconceptions about Preti’s licensed firearm and questioning the narrative that portrayed him as a threat. “The only thing he brandished was a camera phone.” This perspective—on how society might prioritize certain fears—feels significant, doesn’t it?
As the discussion unfolds, it prompts reflection on the delicate balance between law enforcement, journalism, and the public’s right to know—something many might feel passionately about.
