Chalamet’s Uncle Surprises Fans

Fans of Timothée Chalamet were in for a surprise regarding his family connections. Recently, it was revealed that the 30-year-old actor is related to Rodman Flender, an actor in his own right.

A tweet that caught attention said, “Hollywood is giving him special treatment. Chalamet is a neophyte baby, but not many people know that. He has an uncle who opened many doors in the industry.”

Flender, 63, has been working in the entertainment field since 1991 and is known for roles in “Gilmore Girls,” “The Office,” “Ugly Betty,” and “Party of Five.” He has also directed episodes of shows like “Finding Carter” and “Scream: The TV Series.” His most recent directing credit was for the 2019 series “On Becoming a God in Central Florida,” which starred Kirsten Dunst.

A PBS alum, Flender is also a close associate of Conan O’Brien and directed the documentary “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop.”

Chalamet’s mother, Nicole Flender, who is Rodman’s sister, has a background as a Broadway actress and dancer.

Fans have expressed mixed reactions on Reddit about this revelation. One user pointed out that Chalamet seems to have advantages due to his family connections, suggesting he wouldn’t have the same opportunities if he were in a different situation.

Another user countered that performing on Broadway is no small feat, implying that talent runs in the family. Comments about how much Chalamet resembles his mother surfaced as well.

Nicole has another daughter, Pauline, who appeared in “The Sex Life of College Girls.” Flender himself has an impressive educational background, having attended the High School of Performing Arts in New York, the Webber Douglas Academy in London, and graduating from Harvard University.

Chalamet attended LaGuardia High School of Music and Arts, went on to Columbia University, and later transferred to New York University. However, he chose to focus more on acting and left university before finishing his degree.

Recently, Chalamet received accolades during the 2026 awards season for his performance in “Marty Supreme.” The film is inspired by the real-life table tennis champion Marty Reisman, who earned several medals between the late 1940s and 1960s. Chalamet plays the lead role, Marty Moser.

His work in “Marty Supreme” has garnered him both a Critics Choice Award and a Golden Globe, in addition to nominations for Best Actor and an Oscar. In a notable scene, Moser experiences a comedic moment involving a ping pong paddle.

Kevin O’Leary, the host of “Shark Tank,” shared insights about working with Chalamet at the Golden Globe Awards. He voiced that he struggled to like Chalamet’s character, describing him as someone with blind ambition who bulldozes through others — making it easy for him to critique the character. “The moments we had together were really fun,” O’Leary added.
