Lindsey Vonn is on the brink of a remarkable comeback at the Olympic Games.
She wrapped up training for the women’s downhill event over the weekend, which was particularly challenging following a torn anterior cruciate ligament she sustained in a World Cup race just a week earlier. After this training, she will compete in the women’s downhill final on Sunday at 5:30 a.m. ET.
Additionally, Vonn will take part in the women’s team combined downhill event and the women’s super-G.
The 41-year-old will join her team for a joint official practice on Monday, February 9th at 5:30 a.m. ET. Following that, she is set to compete in the actual team event on Tuesday, February 10th, at 4:30 a.m. ET and again at 8 a.m. ET.
Her final event will be the women’s super-G on Thursday at 5:30 a.m. ET.
Despite initially fears she might have to miss the Olympics due to her injury, the Minnesota native has shown resilience. In a recent update, she mentioned that she had a fully torn ACL.
A typical recovery from a torn ACL can take about a year, but Vonn’s determination seems unyielding.
She made her return to competitive skiing last year after nearly six years away, following a partial titanium replacement surgery on her right knee in 2024.
As for accolades, Lindsey Vonn remains the second most successful female athlete in World Cup history, claiming 84 wins and eight medals at the world championships. She previously secured a gold medal in downhill and a bronze in super-G during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, along with another bronze in downhill at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. With the competition in Italy, she hopes to expand her medal collection.
