Duck Dynasty Crew Faces Harrowing Winter Storm Ordeal

A severe winter storm that affected much of the South last month also caused significant challenges for the “Duck Dynasty” team.

Jace Robertson shared his experiences with Zack Dasher and Al Robertson, detailing close calls and difficult situations that tested both their gear and their limits.

“I dubbed this the ice apocalypse. Nine days later, I still had ice stuck underfoot. I couldn’t walk to the truck at all. Now it’s super slippery… We’ve been without power for eight days,” Dasher recounted on the podcast “Unashamed” this week.

Jace mentioned that he was riding in his Argo vehicle with friends when one of them lost control and crashed into a patch of ice.

“The ice was so thick we had to carve a path through the road as we turned a corner, and nearby trees fell as well. We spent days doing that and found ourselves needing a chainsaw,” he explained.

As they trekked through fallen obstacles, the water underneath the ice began to rise. Jace recalled seeing thousands of ducks take flight nearby.

“The water was getting deeper, and I was breaking the ice when I spotted around 3,000 ducks near the duck blind. We were all a bit insane for going out there, but we only had the Argo, which barely holds two people,” he said.

The Argo struggled to navigate the thick ice, forcing the crew to manually create a path through the freezing water.

“At one point, the water got really deep… The Argo offers some propulsion on land, but the ice was just too thick,” Jace admitted.

“So, I suggested everyone calm down and get out,” he added.

He noticed one team member, Cade, starting to shake uncontrollably. “Cade said, ‘I think I cut a hole in my waders while breaking the ice,'” Jace remembered.

The group’s nurse quickly recognized the seriousness of the situation as icy water flooded in.

“One of our nurses was present, so I felt a bit better. But then he said, ‘You’re showing early signs of hypothermia,'” Jace recounted, referring to another member of the Duck Commander team.

Cade thought he needed medical assistance, but Jace pointed out they were miles from help. He ended up sitting Cade near a campfire, encouraging him to “keep moving and shoot every so often.”

Reflecting on the day, Jace told his wife, Missy, “It was a tough day. We lost the truck, lost the Argo, and had someone with hypothermia. I genuinely thought he might not make it, but he pulled through.”

Unfortunately, danger didn’t stop there.

While he was dealing with the aftermath, Jace realized he had sustained injuries himself. “It looked like I had been in a bar fight—bruises and cuts everywhere… That chainsaw caught my leg, and I wasn’t even aware I had injured myself,” he said, realizing how close he was to a more serious situation.

“It dawned on me that it could have turned out much worse, and I didn’t even realize it at the time,” he added.

And then there was another close call for the “Duck Dynasty” star.

When they cleared out the area where they leave trash, there were massive limbs from trees, which Jace’s wife noted could hinder the trash collection. So, Jace decided to take action.

“We cut down a tree and cleaned things up,” he said. Suddenly, a huge limb crashed down right where he had been standing moments before.

“If I had been 30 seconds slower, I wouldn’t be here,” he remarked, highlighting how close he was to a fatal accident.

Overall, the winter storm severely disrupted the daily lives of the Duck Dynasty family, forcing them into survival mode without electricity for days.

Nationwide, power outages exceeded 200,000, with significant disruptions in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, according to PowerOutage.us data.

Louisiana State Police Senior Sergeant Ryan Davis warned on FOX Weather that highways could remain icy and hazardous for several days post-storm.
