Brandi Carlile to Perform at Super Bowl LX
Brandi Carlile will take the stage before the kickoff of Super Bowl LX, featuring the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. She’s known for her vocal opposition to former President Donald Trump and his administration, and joins fellow artists Bad Bunny and Green Day, who share similar sentiments.
Carlile is set to perform “America the Beautiful.” In a recent interview, she reflected on the personal significance of the performance, particularly as a member of the LGBT community. She emphasized the importance of maintaining her moral integrity during this momentous occasion: “As a wife and a mother, I have to answer to that,” she said. “It’s about representing marginalized communities and recognizing the complex hope that lies at the heart of America.” Her thoughts on singing patriotic songs suggest that love for the country can coexist with critical reflection.
In her discussion with *Variety*, she mentioned how the song’s meaning might resonate differently during turbulent times. “Even if you don’t catch every word, for those attuned, it can be deeply moving,” she said. Carlile remarked that if the nation is to heal, a reminder that we love our country is essential.
Interestingly, Carlile also expressed her reluctance to engage in typical activism, preferring instead to stick to her personal beliefs. “I won’t get drawn into arguments online. My activism is about my own conscience,” she stated.
Super Bowl LX will kick off at 6:30 PM ET, and it’s expected to be an event filled with emotion and powerful performances.
