Healthier Snack Trends for Super Bowl Sunday
This year’s Super Bowl is often associated with indulgence, yet many Americans are on the hunt for healthier snack options. It’s interesting how preferences vary by state. An analysis by the blog Coffeeness showed trends in Google searches regarding Super Bowl snacks across all 50 states.
Surprisingly, boiled eggs topped the list as the most-searched healthy snack, being a favorite in over half the states. Those states include places like Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, and Illinois, among others.
Another popular option was fresh salsa, with pico de gallo coming in as the second most searched item, especially in states like Alabama and Florida. Then there are pistachios, which peaked interest in a few states, including California and Texas.
Cowboy caviar, a savory mix of beans and vegetables, found a spot as the top healthy snack in a handful of states, like Arkansas and Iowa. It seems that even during high-energy games, like the Super Bowl, many are keen on making better food choices.
Shannon O’Meara, a registered dietitian, noted the shift in mindset among Americans. People are moving away from seeing the Super Bowl as just a cheat day and are instead seeking a balance—classic treats mixed with healthier options.
She suggests that snacks such as boiled eggs and bean dips provide protein, which is a solid contrast to snacks with empty calories like chips and pretzels. Moreover, fiber from options like beans helps keep one feeling full longer while also managing blood sugar levels.
For those trying to stick to health goals during the festivities, O’Meara recommends focusing on mindful eating rather than strict diets. She advises keeping meal times together. “If you want a chocolate chip cookie, enjoy it! Just complement it with something nutritious, like Cowboy Caviar, to feel satisfied,” she said.
