Chris Christie Critiques NYC Mayor Zoran Mamdani for Snow Cleanup
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie publicly criticized New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani on Friday, claiming the mayor failed to adequately handle snow and trash cleanup following a significant snowstorm.
During an appearance on “Overtime” of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Christie was asked to assess Mamdani’s actions during the recent heavy snowfall. He responded, “I’d give him a C. It seems like he moved a lot of snow, but frankly, I’m not sure what else was accomplished.” He went on to elaborate that trash is still accumulating throughout the city, noting, “All my kids live in New York City, and I’ve seen trash piling up everywhere.” Interestingly, he observed that the area in front of the Gracie mansion remained clean, devoid of both trash and ice.
In a somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner, Maher remarked on Mamdani’s leadership, suggesting that “if Democrats don’t change course,” they might face more electoral losses. Amid cheers from the audience, Christie insisted on the validity of his claims, saying, “I’m not kidding—it’s absolutely true.”
After the snowstorm hit the city on January 25, concerns mounted over Mamdani’s response. It was reported that even a week later, many neighborhoods still struggled with a mix of dirty snow and garbage piled high.
Actor Michael Rapaport also weighed in on social media, calling out the situation by sharing a grim depiction of the streets—a “garbage soup” and “skating rinks” at intersections.
In defense of the city’s handling of the cleanup, Mamdani had mentioned during a press conference that the cold weather had hindered the normal melting process of snow. He insisted that the city’s response required ongoing effort from officials, who he believed were doing a commendable job under the circumstances.
