Bernie Sanders Criticizes Trump Over Olympian’s Remarks
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont confronted President Donald Trump regarding his remarks about American Olympian Hunter Hess during recent comments made on social media.
Hess had voiced his feelings about representing the U.S. at the upcoming 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, expressing some uncertainty. This led Trump to label him a “real loser.”
Sanders reacted on X, saying, “President Trump called American Olympian Hunter Hess a ‘real loser’ for criticizing what is happening in our country under the Trump administration. Mr. President, this is not a monarchy. This is the United States of America, and no one should bow down to you. Hess is not a loser. He’s a proud American.”
Hess’s comments emerged amidst criticism directed at the Trump administration for its immigration policies, especially following a tragic incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Reflecting on his feelings, Hess stated, “I think representing the United States right now brings up mixed emotions. It’s a little difficult… Just because I wear the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in America.”
Trump later responded on Truth Social, asserting that Hess should not have tried for the Olympic team if he feels this way, adding, “It’s so hard to root for a player like this.”
