Jutta Lierdam Shines in Milan Olympics

Jutta Lierdam achieved her goal in Milan on Monday. The Dutch speed skater captured attention during the women’s 1,000-meter final, finishing with an impressive time of 1 minute 12.31 seconds, setting a new Olympic record and securing a gold medal.

After her exhilarating victory, Lierdam skated around the rink, tears of joy in her eyes, waving to the enthusiastic crowd. Among the supporters was her fiancé, Jake Paul, who was visibly moved by the moment.

The race featured 15 heats, with two skaters from each heat moving on to the finals. Competing in the last heat, Lierdam went head-to-head with Miho Takagi, the reigning Olympic and world champion from Japan, ultimately edging her into third place.

In this final heat, Dutch skater Femke Koch set a fast pace with a time of 1 minute 12.59 seconds, followed by Team USA’s Brittany Bowe in 1 minute 14.55 seconds. Both outperformed American Erin Jackson’s top time of 1:15.00, with Bowe narrowly missing out on a medal as Takagi took home the bronze.

For Lierdam, this victory was especially poignant. She had long anticipated this moment, having earned a silver medal in the same event during the 2022 Beijing Games. This year’s performance showcased her growth, claiming victory ahead of Takagi and Bowe.

Jake Paul expressed his support on social media before the race, stating, “Today is your day, baby. You’ve worked your whole life for this. We all love and support you so much, let’s go win a championship,” alongside a photo of the couple together.

Their romance began through Instagram, and they have been a couple since 2022.
