The Powerball jackpot has surged to $126 million after a ticket in North Carolina got all but one number right, missing out on the grand prize by just a hair.
The winning numbers drawn on Monday were 6, 19, 22, 28, 48, with the Powerball being 24.
While the player in North Carolina didn’t snag the Powerball itself, they still walked away with a $1 million prize thanks to correctly guessing all the other numbers in the multi-state game.
The probability of winning the jackpot, which entails matching all five numbers plus the Powerball, remains daunting at 1 in 292.2 million.
Since that ticket was sold, there have been eight drawings. Interestingly, another North Carolina resident recently won a massive $209 million jackpot on January 21, taking home around $95.3 million in cash.
The next drawing is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:59 PM PT.
In a related note, a ticket holder in California matched four numbers in the February 7 drawing, coming up just shy of the $102 million jackpot. Nonetheless, they still earned a tidy $56,279. This winning ticket was purchased at La Hacienda Market, located at 365 Main Street in Fillmore, roughly 45 miles east of Santa Barbara.
Edwin Castro, who made headlines as the largest lottery winner in U.S. history, won a staggering $2.04 billion back in 2022.
It’s worth noting that Powerball is available in every state, except for Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.
