FBI Detains Suspected Partner of Former Olympian and Alleged Drug Trafficker

FBI Arrests Canadian Man Linked to Olympic Athlete’s Drug Ring

The FBI announced the arrest of a Canadian man on February 9, believed to be involved in a drug operation associated with former Olympian Ryan Wedding.

Tommy DeMorigi, 35, was apprehended by FBI and Border Patrol agents at Newark Liberty International Airport. He had reportedly been a tourist from the Dominican Republic, where he was suspected of hiding prior to his arrest. An FBI spokesperson confirmed the details of his capture.

An arrest warrant for DeMorigi was issued by the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on October 28, 2025. He faces charges related to cocaine distribution, conspiracy to export cocaine, and retaliating against a witness, among other offenses.

In a tweet, the FBI Los Angeles office noted that DeMorigi was wanted for multiple violations, including helping locate witnesses connected to the case.

Reports suggest that DeMorigi allegedly paid musician Edwin Basola-Hernandez around $1,000 for the contact information of Jonathan Acevedo Garcia, who was set to testify against Wedding in an ongoing lawsuit. The Department of Justice will oversee the related criminal proceedings set for November 2025.

Wedding reportedly discovered that Acevedo-Garcia was an informant after the FBI dismissed charges against him and several co-conspirators. Following this, he allegedly put a bounty of up to $5 million on Acevedo Garcia, recruiting several individuals to find and kill him. Tragically, Acevedo Garcia was shot and killed on January 31, 2025, by hitmen allegedly contracted by Wedding.

DeMorigi’s arrest makes him the 37th person associated with Wedding’s criminal activities. During a press conference in November 2025, FBI Director Kash Patel drew parallels between Wedding and notorious drug lords from history, describing him as a modern-day Pablo Escobar. Attorney General Pam Bondi also labeled him as “Canada’s largest distributor of cocaine.”

The Daily Caller reached out to the FBI for insights, but there was no immediate response regarding DeMorigi’s arrest.
