Surveillance footage captured a bold thief breaking into a jewelry store in Los Angeles through the roof and making off with over $100,000 worth of jewelry in just ten minutes.
The break-in happened early Saturday morning at Nafice Jewelers located on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, as reported.
The video footage showed the suspect reaching into display cases, taking valuable items, including rare coins from the Middle East, before escaping.
“The thief just came in, climbed down from the roof. You could see he fell about 18 feet,” said Tulazi Nezafati, a co-owner, pointing out that the thief seemed to be familiar with the store’s setup.
“He knew he had to crawl to avoid injury before jumping down,” he explained, noting their store has two levels.
Nezafati mentioned that after three decades in business, the possibility of closing the store is beginning to feel real, especially since this marks the second robbery in just six months.
His family has also faced two home invasion robberies, where they were followed home and threatened at gunpoint.
“It’s time to leave LA,” he said. “Things have changed here. We feel unsafe just going from the store to our house. There’s always that worry—what if someone holds a gun to us and forces us back to the store?”
Following the first robbery, the family did attempt to enhance the store’s security, including stepping up the safety of their safe.
Now, they’re weighing their options: either relocating to Orange County or closing up shop for good.
