An individual has been detained for questioning regarding the case of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, as reported by a source. The unidentified person was taken into custody late Tuesday in a location south of Tucson.
FBI Director Kash Patel spoke on Fox News, affirming that federal agents are looking into a “person of interest.” He mentioned, “I can’t go into details, but thanks to the FBI’s tech capabilities and collaboration, we’ve made substantial progress in the last day or so. We’re confident we’re focusing on a key suspect.”
This news follows the FBI’s release of unsettling surveillance images on February 10, which captured an armed individual in a ski mask tampering with Nancy’s home surveillance system on the morning she was reported missing.
During a press conference on February 5, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos indicated that all leads were being pursued but clarified they did not have a strong suspect at that time. He commended the Guthrie family for their cooperation throughout the investigation.
Nancy was last seen in her Arizona home after being dropped off by her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, on January 31. Concern grew when she did not appear at church the next morning. As the circumstances surrounding her disappearance raised alarms, Sheriff Nanos noted the home was being treated as a crime scene due to “very disturbing” signs.
Savannah, Nancy’s daughter, expressed gratitude for the community’s support while focusing her efforts on her mother’s safe return. Nanos later revealed that investigators believed Nancy may have been forcibly taken from her home during the night.
The investigation suggested signs of trespassing and even blood stains at the residence. Sheriff Nanos stated that the evidence pointed toward Nancy being taken against her will, while also underscoring that she was in a “sound mind” and had health concerns limiting her mobility.
As the situation developed, multiple ransom notes surfaced, detailing personal aspects about Nancy and her surroundings prior to her disappearance. In the wake of these distressing events, Savannah and her family have made heartfelt public appeals, even offering a plea for her mother’s return.
As time passed without resolution, Savannah’s desperation was evident, particularly as the ransom deadline approached. Meanwhile, there were concerns for her safety as NBC increased security measures at their New York studio in response to the unfolding crisis. Colleagues and friends in journalism expressed their support and concern for Savannah during this challenging time.
