Kimmel Critiques Liberal Fandom for Bad Bunny
During a monologue on Monday night, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel called out liberals for suddenly becoming fans of Bad Bunny following his Super Bowl halftime performance.
Discussing the show, Kimmel labeled the Turning Point USA halftime event a “disaster” and stated that he wasn’t joining the crowd criticizing the alternative.
“Look, I’m not jumping on the ‘Bash Kid Rock’ bandwagon. I don’t agree with what he says, either, but there’s talent there. I’ve seen him perform; he knows how to put on a fun show. This isn’t about choosing sides between Kid Rock and Bad Bunny. It’s just a bit absurd. You can enjoy one or both,” he remarked.
Kimmel then highlighted the newfound enthusiasm for Bad Bunny among liberal circles.
“Right now, it seems like almost every liberal I know is suddenly all about Bad Bunny,” he noted.
“People who probably never even uttered the terms ‘Bad’ or ‘Bunny’ are now saying, ‘I’m so excited for Bad Bunny!’ When asked about their favorite song, they might reply, ‘I have no idea, but I love him!'”
Kimmel also shared his struggle to catch every word during Bad Bunny’s performance, which was predominantly in Spanish, but emphasized that it shouldn’t matter.
“But that’s not the point! It’s a halftime show at a football game. Who knows every single word? I don’t even know all the lyrics to songs I actually know,” he expressed.
“So let’s not make this about excluding people. In fact, English has had plenty of opportunities in Super Bowl history,” he added.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump criticized Bad Bunny’s performance, deeming it “one of the worst shows ever.” He expressed his thoughts on Truth Social, stating, “The Super Bowl halftime show is absolutely awful, one of the worst ever! It makes no sense, is an insult to American greatness, and does not meet our standards for creativity and excellence.”
Trump continued his critique by saying, “Nobody can understand a word this guy is saying. That dance is disgusting—especially for young children watching from all across America and the world.”
