Elizabeth Lemley wins gold in women's mogul final after favorite's unexpected fall.

Team USA brought some early excitement on Wednesday morning with a remarkable performance.

In her Olympic debut, Elizabeth Lemley participated in the women’s moguls final.

The 20-year-old narrowly missed out on a gold medal, finishing second in the qualifying round. However, she benefited from a mishap by defending champion Jakara Anthony.

Lemley, hailing from Vail, Colorado, finished with an impressive score of 82.30, cheered on by a lively group of family and friends.

But the moment became even more significant shortly after.

American Jaelyn Kauf secured second place with a score of 80.77.

Once Kauf completed her run, she, along with Lemley and the other American, celebrated by jumping up and down and embracing each other as the podium came into view.

France’s Perrine Lafont, who won the gold in PyeongChang 2018, clinched the bronze medal with a score of 78.00.

Lemley’s unexpected triumph surprised the crowd, especially since many anticipated Anthony would take the lead. However, after losing control following the first jump, Anthony fell short of her goal.

The Australian athlete was aiming to be the first woman to win the moguls title twice but will have to wait another four years for that chance.

Kauf’s second-place finish marked her second consecutive silver medal, following her debut Olympic achievement in Beijing 2022.

She advanced to the finals after a strong qualifying round, whereas Lemley and her fellow Americans, including Olivia Giaccio and Tess Johnson, qualified for the first round on Tuesday.
