Cam Bolton Injured While Training, Airlifted to Hospital
Cam Bolton, a four-time Olympic snowboarder, was airlifted to a hospital in Milan after sustaining a neck injury during training for a snowboard cross event on Thursday.
The 35-year-old athlete experienced an accident on Monday. Surprisingly, he left the scene without fully grasping the extent of his injuries. Yet, as the pain intensified the following day, medical scans revealed two fractures in his neck.
He was subsequently transported from the mountains to Milan for more specialized treatment.
Alisa Camplin, the team’s mission chef, provided a positive update regarding Bolton’s condition, expressing pride in the quality of care he is receiving. “Cam wanted his teammates to know that he’s doing okay and is well looked after,” she mentioned. “He appreciates the strong support system we have in place, and communication has been really good.”
The Australian Olympic Committee also stated, “Cam is stable and in good spirits.” They added that local medical professionals are collaborating with the Australian Olympic Medical Team to determine the next steps for his treatment and assessment.
Bolton made his Olympic debut at the 2014 Sochi Games, where he ranked 11th. He has since achieved top 10 finishes: 10th in PyeongChang 2018 and 9th in the mixed team event at Beijing 2022.
Originally, he was set to participate in both the men’s snowboard cross and the mixed team event in Milan-Cortina.
