Wuthering Heights Premiere in Sydney
The romantic allure of “Wuthering Heights” has officially made its way to Sydney, with Margot Robbie making a stylish appearance for the event.
The highly anticipated film had its red carpet debut on Thursday, showcasing its Australian lead cast once more.
Robbie, at 35, graced the occasion in a custom Ashi Studio Couture gown. The dress, a pale ecru, featured sheer tulle off-the-shoulder sleeves and an eye-catching skirt with dramatic shreds at the cuffs and hem.
I can’t help but admire the intricate bodice, created in collaboration with renowned corset maker Mr. Pearl. It draws inspiration from 18th-century corsets and is hand-painted to evoke the essence of antique designs.
Completing her gothic look, Robbie accessorized with a yellow and black gold and diamond choker and rings by Lorraine Schwartz. Custom Manolo Blahnik shoes rounded out her striking outfit.
Co-star Jacob Elordi, who plays Heathcliff alongside Robbie’s Catherine Earnshaw, certainly made an impression in a blue double-breasted suit and a gold tooth cap like the one he wears in the film. I noticed he even added a little sparkle with a small diamond next to the ‘H’ on his cap while on the red carpet.
Since launching its press tour in late January, “Wuthering Heights” has been a topic of vibrant fashion discussions. Robbie portrays the brooding heroine from Emily Brontë’s novel, and stylist Andrew Mukamal has been credited for her stunning looks. You might remember him as the creative force behind Robbie’s outfits during her successful “Barbie” press tour.
For the Los Angeles premiere on January 28, she wowed in a custom Schiaparelli dress with a dramatic black and red ombre that captured the film’s passion and romance. Yet, it seems her jewelry had everyone talking, with a nod to the past. Richard Burton once gifted Elizabeth Taylor an $8.8 million diamond necklace, which remains legendary.
At the recent London premiere, Robbie also wore a replica of Charlotte Brontë’s mourning bracelet made from hair belonging to the famous Brontë sisters. It’s intriguing, isn’t it? Emily, who wrote “Wuthering Heights,” passed away just a year after its release.
In an interesting turn, Robbie often embraces Victorian-era corsets, drawing from a 1992 John Galliano archive and vintage Vivienne Westwood pieces, frequently quoting from the novel itself.
The film’s Sydney screening felt like a homecoming for its two Australian leads, as Robbie hails from Queensland and Elordi from Brisbane.
Stylist Andrew Mukamal has been refining Robbie’s gothic glamour looks since the tour began. It’s clear he has a vision for each appearance, prompting Robbie to hint at an evolution of costumes reflecting different scenes from the movie throughout the press activities.
The film, directed by Emerald Fennell and featuring music by Charli XCX, is set to grace theaters on February 13th.
