New Jersey Teacher Sentenced for Abuse and Manipulation

A former New Jersey teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for grooming and abusing two of her students, one of whom she eventually impregnated. This shocking case unfolded at Wall Township High School, where Julie Rizzitello, 37, carried out her predatory behavior.

In court, it was revealed that Rizzitello convinced one of her young victims to have unprotected sex on her birthday, resulting in the pregnancy. Following the incident, she informed the teenager, whom she had mentored as a freshman, that she had terminated the pregnancy.

Monmouth County Judge Jill Grace O’Malley addressed the impact of Rizzitello’s actions on the young victims, emphasizing the emotional trauma they faced. The judge noted how the abusive dynamic had destroyed the trust that the students had in their teacher. “He was groomed throughout high school by someone he loved and trusted,” she stated. The psychological ramifications of the abortion added another layer of devastation for the victim.

Rizzitello pleaded guilty last year to two counts of second-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors disclosed that she engaged in inappropriate behavior with her victims for several months, with the first boy being groomed in 2017.

During the proceedings, the judge remarked on the patterns of grooming behavior typical of sexual offenders. “This is standard sexual offender behavior, and you are no different,” she said, directly addressing Rizzitello. Meanwhile, she also targeted another male student, 18 years old, in early 2024.

The abuse occurred in various locations, including her home, a parking lot, and even at a family-owned bagel shop where the victims worked. Rizzitello’s attempts to deny the severity of her actions were met with firm rebukes from the judge.

After her arrest in July 2024, Rizzitello allegedly tried to contact both victims, urging them to delete evidence from their devices, highlighting the calculated nature of her actions. Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago described the incidents as “textbook cases of grooming,” emphasizing the manipulation and control Rizzitello exerted over her victims.

In summation, the emotional and psychological damage inflicted by Rizzitello on her students underscores the gravity of her abuse. The case serves as a reminder of the responsibilities educators hold and the potential consequences when that trust is betrayed.
