Sen. Jon Ossoff’s Facebook Ad Sparks Controversy
Senator Jon Ossoff’s Facebook advertisement appears to have caused some discontent among two notable out-of-state Democrats who are backing his re-election campaign as he continues to seek funding beyond Georgia.
In one of his ads, Ossoff features a quote from Democratic strategist James Carville, who has been involved in electing Democrats for decades. The message reads:
Hi there, this is James Carville. Having spent almost fifty years in the political arena, I want to emphasize that you really need to pay attention to Georgia’s Senate race.
Through those years, I’ve learned that sometimes what you hear is accurate, and sometimes it isn’t.
Here’s the reality: Jon Ossoff is the lone Democratic senator running for re-election in a state that went for Trump. This makes him a major target for Republicans.
However, the ad also includes an endorsement image from Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois.
Rep. Mike Collins, a Republican from Georgia who wants to see Ossoff out of the Senate, criticized the ad, stating, “This document reveals all you need to know about Jon Ossoff’s loyalties, especially when he fails to even correct which radical Democrats are backing him.”
The War Room account also commented, “He takes financial support from PACs that he supposedly opposes. Ossoff often criticizes the influence of ‘billionaires’ and corporations in politics but is willing to accept their cash.”
Most of Ossoff’s financial backing seems to come from outside Georgia. According to Collins’ campaign, “Eighty percent of Ossoff’s donations are from outside of Georgia, with 20% from California alone. A significant portion of his capped donations come from places like California, New York, and Washington, D.C. Even with all this out-of-state funding, Ossoff can’t shake off his ties to Chuck Schumer.”
Collins also pointed out that while Ossoff pushes for security when interacting with citizens, he seems to disregard the same principles when it comes to voting.
Ossoff has notably opposed various election security measures, including Trump’s SAVE Act, and even proposed legislation that would uphold the right to vote without requiring identification. His Voting Rights Act could complicate states’ efforts to maintain election integrity by limiting voter ID requirements.
