George Kittle surprised by Steph Curry's tallness

When fans watch Stephen Curry play basketball, they often admire his remarkable shooting skills and game control. Interestingly, Curry appears smaller than many of his fellow players on the court.

However, 49ers tight end George Kittle discovered that this perception is somewhat misleading during their first encounter.

“The first time I met Steph was at a San Francisco Giants game. It really threw me off. When I met him in Perth, I thought, oh wow, I’m not that big. Not at all,” Kittle shared.

It’s a humorous observation, especially given that Kittle is recognized as one of the top players in the NFL. While their weight differences are known, it was their height that truly surprised Kittle.

Kittle stands at 6-foot-4, whereas Curry is around 6-2.

Curry is currently dealing with a right patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as runner’s knee. Though it isn’t viewed as a serious or long-term problem, the Warriors are being extra careful with his comeback, especially as they prepare for the postseason after the All-Star break.

On another note, Kittle is also on the mend from an injury, but his situation is more severe.

He suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during the 49ers’ Wild Card win over the Eagles. Following a successful surgery, Kittle feels optimistic about returning for the 2026 season, roughly eight months post-injury.

“The surgery went exceptionally well,” Kittle mentioned. “Dr. (Neil) El-Atraash told me that if you tear your Achilles, it’s best to do it at the soleus muscle—which is exactly what I did. I had a clean tear and avoided needing a hole drilled in my heel, which means better blood flow to the repair site. Yes, it will take longer to recover, but it’s not as bad as it could have been.”
