Sen. Mike Lee Indicates the SAVE America Act Is Supported by 50 Sponsors

Sen. Mike Lee Advocates for SAVE America Act

Senator Mike Lee from Utah has announced that the SAVE America Act boasts 50 sponsors, emphasizing that it gained enough support to pass in the House, which he believes facilitates further action.

In a post, Lee mentioned that the act has 49 sponsors in the Senate, along with support from Senator Collins, pushing the count to 50. He shared this on social media, highlighting the growing backing for the bill.

In a subsequent update on X, he recognized that while there are “no guarantees,” utilizing a talking filibuster appears to be the only viable option to move forward. Lee articulated that there are many inquiries about the next steps following the successful House vote. He expressed that they have sufficient votes to advance the House’s version of the SAVE America Act and stressed the importance of rallying support to invoke and uphold the talking filibuster in the Senate.

“If senators want to debate this, if they want to filibuster, let them,” Lee added, suggesting that he is ready for a robust discussion on the matter.

According to a report by Alana Mastrangelo from Breitbart News, the House passed the SAVE America Act with a vote of 218-213, only one Democrat voted in favor. The sole Democrat supporting the election integrity bill was Representative Henry Cuellar from Texas.

This new legislation updates the previous Protecting American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE), which was approved by the House last April but never brought to the Senate floor for a vote. The current bill aims to enforce photo identification for voting in federal elections, introduce proof of citizenship requirements in the voter registration process, and mandate states to maintain accurate voter rolls by removing ineligible individuals.

Former President Donald Trump expressed his views regarding voter ID on Truth Social, arguing against the absence of such requirements. He stated that not having a voter ID is “crazier” than issues like men participating in women’s sports or open borders. He insisted that Democrats should not be allowed to disregard voter ID any longer, labeling them as “dishonest scammers” for opposing the initiative.

In another message, Trump asserted that voter ID will be implemented in the midterm elections, regardless of whether Congress approves it.
