Auction Features Iconic Mets Memorabilia

Exciting auction items are on the block.

Among them are late Mets legend Tom Seaver’s Hall of Fame plaque and his 1969 World Series championship ring. These are part of a collection featuring around 200 items available worldwide, being sold through Heritage Auctions’ Winter Platinum Sports Catalog. The auction is set to close on March 1st.

The 10k gold ring, adorned with diamonds and inscribed with “1969 New York Mets World Champions,” is signed by Seaver himself. Estimates suggest it could reach $300,000 at auction.

“Letting go of the ’69 ring was really tough. We struggled with that decision,” shared Seaver’s daughter, Ann.

The auction house highlighted Seaver’s remarkable 1969 season, often regarded as one of the most impressive pitching performances in recent baseball history, which led the Mets to their inaugural championship.

The 1992 Baseball Hall of Fame plaque is also included in the auction. Ann and her mother, Nancy, sifted through items stored in Seaver’s office and home in California prior to the auction.

This bronze plaque, measuring 9 by 6 inches and a replica of the one displayed in Cooperstown, describes Seaver as “the franchise power pitcher who transformed the Mets from lovable losers to formidable foes.” It might sell for around $40,000.

Seaver, regarded as the greatest player in Mets history, passed away in 2020.

Anne noted that after her father’s passing, fans reached out to her in large numbers. “I wasn’t aware of how much they adored him until I saw that love directed toward me,” she reflected. “The kindness and support I received from strangers made me realize just how significant he was in their lives.”

“That’s my motivation for wanting to share pieces like the ’69 ring. His fans truly cared for him, and I feel the same way about them,” she added.
