Teen injured in chaotic downtown streets after student protesters confronted police nearby

A teenager was shot dead following a series of gunshots during a chaotic street occupation in downtown Los Angeles late at night.

The 18-year-old victim sustained gunshot injuries and was quickly taken to a hospital after shots rang out near 18th Avenue and Main Street at around 1:06 a.m.

When officers arrived, the crowd had already scattered, leaving law enforcement unable to make any arrests, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

This incident occurred just hours after federal agents faced attacks from high school students about two miles away, resulting in one agent being hit by a rock.

One clip showed a hooded individual hanging out of a car window as it drifted along the sidewalk.

A large group of spectators gathered around the drivers, with tires screeching and smoke filling the air.

In later footage, a man in jogging pants was seen lying on the ground while officers provided assistance after the intense scene unfolded.

Earlier in the day, a violent confrontation involving a high school student outside City Hall at around 1:30 p.m. left several federal agents injured, including a specific incident where an ICE officer was struck in the head with a rock.

A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security reported that roughly 200 to 300 protesters had assembled outside the ICE building in Los Angeles.

“They hurled rocks and various items at law enforcement. An ICE officer sustained a head injury from a thrown rock,” the spokesperson said.

“Two agents from the Federal Protective Service were hurt, one with a concussion serious enough to require hospitalization, and another had a cut above the eye. The individuals responsible for this violence are still at large.”

A walkout by high school students had taken place earlier Friday as part of a protest against ICE.

The top federal prosecutor in L.A., Bill Essairi, condemned the protesters and promised to pursue legal action against those involved.

“The violent acts against federal officers by high school students this afternoon are completely unacceptable,” he stated.

Authorities mentioned that they possessed video footage of the suspects, indicating they would face arrest and charges, even if they were minors.

“It’s imperative that parents, teachers, unions, and school officials who assisted students in skipping classes and attacking federal officers be held accountable,” he added.

“Consider how much more successful students might be if schools focused on educating them rather than promoting certain ideologies.”

It remains unclear if high school students were also involved in the later street occupation on Friday.
