Teen Wrestler Stands Up After Alleged Assault by Transgender Opponent

Callie Keeler, a 16-year-old wrestler from Rogers High School in Puyallup, Washington, is voicing her experiences following what she claims was a sexual assault during a girls’ wrestling match. This incident allegedly occurred in December against an opponent from Emerald Ridge High School.

The confrontation involved a teenage boy who identified as female, and Keeler accused him of attempting to assault her during the match. She recounted that she didn’t know at the time that her opponent was biologically male. The U.S. Department of Education has now opened an investigation into the claims.

In a statement, Keeler expressed relief that authorities were taking her complaint seriously after a two-month wait for action from her local school district. “It’s really hard to reflect on that moment in such a public place,” she mentioned, noting that this experience shouldn’t happen to any teenage girl. Keeler hopes changes will be made to prevent similar situations in the future. She thanked those who supported her through this challenging time.

The Education Department revealed on Friday that the school district allegedly did not respond adequately to Keeler’s reports of the incident. An official announcement emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated.

Footage from the match reportedly shows the moment of the alleged assault, with observers noting Keeler’s distress during the grapple. This case is not isolated; there have been multiple complaints concerning transgender wrestlers and inappropriate behavior towards female athletes.

Linda McMahon, a Parliamentary Secretary, confirmed that the agency is investigating these serious allegations. She emphasized the importance of Title IX protections and the consequences for those who fail to comply with it.

In a related context, a policy shift occurred under President Donald Trump in February 2025 aimed at safeguarding women’s sports from what was described as left-wing transgenderism. This involved revising federal Title IX regulations to potentially withhold funding from schools allowing transgender athletes to compete as female. Earlier this year, the Education Department announced they were looking into multiple school districts regarding claims related to transgender policies.
