Casey Wasserman to Sell Talent Agency Following Controversy
Casey Wasserman, a notable sports talent agent and founder of the Wasserman Agency, has informed his staff of his decision to sell his agency. This announcement follows the release of flirtatious emails exchanged between him, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Jeffrey Epstein back in 2003, as reported by The Associated Press.
Wasserman, who also serves as chairman of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, was mentioned in the Department of Justice’s recent documents. This news surfaced shortly after the executive committee of LA28 gathered to discuss the implications of Wasserman’s name appearing in Epstein-related records. They emphasized that their investigation was thorough and involved an external law firm, with Wasserman’s full collaboration.
According to a statement from the committee, it declared that Wasserman’s connections with Epstein and Maxwell were already publicly known and stated he should continue leading LA28 to ensure a successful event.
Previously, Wasserman had remarked on a trip he took in 2002 to Africa on Epstein’s private jet, which was part of a humanitarian mission linked to the Clinton Foundation. In a memo addressing his team, he reflected on his limited interactions with both Maxwell and Epstein, expressing remorse about the emails.
He conveyed, “The extent of their criminal behavior became evident years ago, involving just one humanitarian trip and a handful of emails that I sincerely regret. It pains me that my brief engagement with them 23 years ago has led to so much distress for you, this company, and its clients these past weeks.”
It’s worth noting that Wasserman has firmly stated, “I have never had a personal or business association with Jeffrey Epstein.” He reiterated his regret about having participated in the 2002 trip on Epstein’s plane, seeking clarity on his character amidst the ongoing scandal.
Recently, Abby Wambach, a legend of the U.S. women’s national soccer team, announced her departure from the agency along with another employee, Chapel Lawn.
Some of the emails exchanged between Wasserman and Maxwell raised eyebrows, with Wasserman expressing thoughts about seeing her in a tight leather outfit and Maxwell questioning if Wasserman would be “floating around naked on the beach” during a future visit. Wasserman’s response hinted at agreement with the playful tone.
Despite the controversy, it’s important to highlight that Wasserman has not faced any allegations of misconduct. This situation continues to unfold as the sports industry watches closely.
