Anthony Kim claims LIV Golf title for his first win in 16 years

Anthony Kim’s Inspirational Comeback at LIV Golf Adelaide

Anthony Kim made a stunning return to golf, joining the LIV Golf Tour in March 2024 after a 12-year hiatus caused by a torn Achilles tendon in his left foot. His journey was marked by struggles with drug and alcohol issues, but he managed to make a remarkable comeback, reclaiming his status in the sport.

Competing with some of golf’s biggest names like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau in the final group, Kim, 40, delivered an exceptional performance. He shot a 9-under 63 in the final round, bringing his total to -23 and winning the LIV Golf Adelaide tournament in Australia by three strokes over Rahm, who finished at 1 under in the final round. This marked Rahm’s second consecutive runner-up finish.

DeChambeau had a challenging day, finishing with a 74 at the par-72 Grange Golf Club, landing him in a three-way tie for third place at -17.

Before the final round, anticipation built around a potential showdown between Rahm and DeChambeau, both tied at -19. Meanwhile, Kim, who started five strokes back at -14, was an underdog. Many expected him to build on his recent success, but few anticipated he would actually overcome these elite players to win.

This victory is even more noteworthy considering Kim’s struggles earlier in his LIV Golf journey, particularly in his first two seasons. He returned to the league earlier this year, finishing top 3 at a LIV Golf Promotion Event in January. Though his season began with a tied 22nd place finish in Riyadh, his win on Sunday was a remarkable turnaround.

What’s particularly impressive about Kim’s journey is his past as one of the top players on the PGA Tour. He turned pro in 2006 and won three PGA Tour events, including the AT&T National and the Wachovia Championship in 2008, as well as the Shell Houston Open in 2010. He also played on the victorious 2008 Ryder Cup team, notably defeating Sergio Garcia 5&4 in singles.
