Ways to watch Mikaela Shiffrin in the Olympic giant slalom without paying

After placing 15th in the slalom portion of the women’s alpine ski team combined event, Mikaela Shiffrin is hitting the slopes again today in Cortina for the first of two individual events.

Today, she’ll be competing in the giant slalom, an event where she previously secured a gold medal during the 2018 Winter Olympics. However, at the 2022 Games, she was unable to finish her first run, which meant she couldn’t defend her title.

Three other American skiers — Paula Molzan, who already won a bronze medal in Cortina, AJ Hart, and Nina O’Brien — will also be competing in the giant slalom this morning.

The women’s giant slalom event is set for February 15th at 4 a.m. ET on USA Network, with coverage moving to NBC at 7:30 a.m.

  • When: February 15th, 4 a.m. ET
  • Where: Olimpia delle Tofane Ski Course, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
  • Channel: USA Network (4 a.m.), NBC (7:30 a.m.)
  • Streaming: DIRECTV (try it for free)

On the track today, two of the top contenders from the Beijing Olympics, gold medalist Sara Hector and silver medalist Federica Brignone, are also set to compete. Aside from Molzan, these athletes bring significant experience, as some won medals last week, including Brignone, Emma Eicher, and Sofia Goggia.

The giant slalom is a high-speed alpine skiing event that combines technical skill and speed. Participants navigate through “gates,” executing fast and wide carving turns. This isn’t a straight sprint; skiers have to maintain momentum while ensuring extreme precision and edge control.
