Love Blossoms at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games

There’s a notable romance unfolding amid the competition at the upcoming 2026 Milan-Cortina Games. Spanish figure skater Olivia Smart and former U.S. Olympic ice dancer Jean-Luc Baker recently got engaged. Baker proposed on Valentine’s Day, and Smart responded with a heartfelt “yes,” sharing the excitement with fans on Instagram.

The couple posted, “It was always you,” alongside a video of the proposal, which took place in the vibrant streets of Milan. Smart appeared genuinely surprised as Baker presented the ring while she was busy competing on the ice. It’s moments like these that can really tug at your heartstrings.

It’s interesting to note that, despite being friends for a while, they were fierce rivals on the ice, particularly during the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and at various world championships. Smart had the edge in their last competition, placing eighth, while Baker finished in 11th.

On this occasion, Baker watched from the stands as Smart competed alongside her partner, Tim Deke, who finished ninth. Although the rank might not have met their expectations, at least they walked away with something significant to remember, right?

Baker has experienced his own share of success, earning a bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. However, he hasn’t skated since 2023 due to injuries. It’s a tug-of-war of emotions—celebrating love while navigating the ups and downs of competition.

As the Winter Games progress in Milan, one can’t help but appreciate these tender moments shared between the two. They highlight the human side of sports, reminding us that, amid fierce rivalry, love can find its way through.
