Israeli Producer Dana Eden Found Dead in Greece

ATHENS, Greece — Dana Eden, the acclaimed Israeli producer recognized for co-creating the Emmy Award-winning spy thriller “Tehran,” has died unexpectedly in Greece, according to reports from Israeli public broadcaster KAN.

Authorities in Greece revealed that Eden, 52, was discovered deceased in a hotel in Athens. Initial indications suggest she may have taken her own life, with no signs of foul play observed. Officials requested anonymity as Greek police typically do not release comments on such situations.

KAN noted that Eden was in Greece working on the fourth season of her well-loved series.

KAN praised Eden as a pivotal figure in the Israeli television sector, stating, “She played a central role in creating and guiding some of the company’s most notable and influential productions.” The cause of her death, however, remains undisclosed.

Her contributions and passion for creation left a significant impact on the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation. KAN expressed deep condolences to Eden’s family, friends, and colleagues.

In a statement on Facebook, Eden’s production company, Donna & Shula Productions, sought to clarify rumors surrounding her death, which speculated on potential foul play.

“We want to emphasize that these rumors regarding a criminal or state-influenced death are unfounded,” the company stated.

They also highlighted, “This is a time of profound sorrow for her family, friends, and coworkers. We kindly request that Dana’s dignity and the privacy of her loved ones be honored.”

Israeli Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar expressed his sadness on social media, describing Eden as a significant and influential force in Israeli television.

Zohar remarked, “Dana left a lasting impression on Israeli storytelling, showcasing our narratives on the global stage with pride, talent, and bravery.”

“Tehran,” launched in 2020 on Israel and Apple TV, follows Tamar Rabinyan, a young Mossad agent tasked with hacking and dismantling Iran’s nuclear reactor to enable an Israeli military strike. The show was awarded Best Drama Series at the 49th International Emmy Awards in November 2021.

Eden started her television production career in Israel during the 1990s, contributing to series such as the comedy “Yomhem” and the crime drama “Magpie,” before achieving international acclaim with “Tehran.”

Additionally, her program “Saving the Wildlife” earned the Israeli Television Academy Award for Best Television Magazine for Children and Youth in 2018.
