Former NFL Player Tre Johnson Dies at 54

Tre Johnson, a former NFL offensive lineman and one-time Pro Bowl selection, has passed away at the age of 54, as confirmed by his family.

His wife, Eileen, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, stating that he died unexpectedly while the family was on vacation.

“I am writing to inform you that my husband, Tre Johnson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly during a short family vacation,” she said. “His four children—Chloe, EJ, EZ, Eden—along with extended family, friends, and I are devastated and shocked.”

Johnson, who hailed from New York, shone at Temple University before being picked in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. In his rookie season, he played in 14 games and aimed to secure the starting spot on the team.

In his second year, he transitioned from tackle to guard and maintained that position for the remainder of his career. Over the years, he played a total of two seasons with the Redskins and also had three appearances with the Cleveland Browns. His NFL career stretched from 1994 to 2002.

In 1999, he earned a place in the Pro Bowl and was named a second-team All-Pro.

Following his football career, Johnson became a history teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. Recently, he had taken leave due to health concerns, as noted by his wife.
