High Fashion Takes a Canine Twist

Forget the notion of walking a cat; it seems high fashion has found its new muse in dogs.

Dog enthusiasts are now investing millions in luxury jewelry specifically designed for their pets. With a surge in demand on the East Coast, one business owner is contemplating a move to California.

Racheli Shamir, the owner of a dog jewelry store called The D Diamond New York, shared her thoughts on the growing trend.

Her collection features 18-carat gold collars embedded with top-quality D diamonds, appealing to affluent dog owners who want nothing but the best for their four-legged companions.

“Our pieces start at $1,435, but prices can soar based on customization, diamond weight, and stone selection. Some exclusive pieces can hit $150,000 or even more, depending on the client’s desires,” she explained.

A unique item known as the Heart Bone Collar is especially exclusive, available only to repeat customers who have a prior purchase history.

“It’s not inexpensive, but we aim for exceptionally high standards,” Shamir remarked.

Patrons with poodles, golden retrievers, bulldogs, and Chihuahuas frequent Shamir’s chic Manhattan showroom to have their pets don these sparkling collars.

One such dog is Hari, a 12-pound poodle wearing a diamond paw charm. His owner, Monica, showcases similar jewelry for herself.

“I wear it on special occasions, but it’s mainly for him—like when we dine out. Hari gets salmon and rice, and his charm boosts his confidence,” she said.

For many wealthy clients, such expenses are justified. “This is your dog. They’re family. It’s meant to be an heirloom,” Monica remarked, admitting to spending thousands on Hari’s collar.

The custom-made jewelry is seen as a valuable investment. Shamir noted that her pieces hold significant “value” for both new and established moneyed clients.

With her business booming, Shamir is eyeing a potential showroom in Beverly Hills. Interestingly, her two adopted Chihuahuas, Ruri and Fancy, are originally from Los Angeles.

“California is absolutely fantastic. I already have a few clients there,” she mentioned, looking forward to expanding her reach.
