Browns safety Ronnie Hickman attacked by group in NYC hotel lobby

Incident Involving Cleveland Browns Safety Ronnie Hickman

Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Hickman was reportedly assaulted by a group member early Monday morning at a hotel in New York City, as confirmed by the team.

A spokesperson for the Browns stated, “Early Monday morning, safety Ronnie Hickman was the victim of an assault at a hotel in New York City. Following the incident, Ronnie was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and was later released. He is now resting at home with his family.”

According to local authorities, the incident took place around 4:30 a.m. ET at the SIXTY LES hotel. Hickman was approached by four individuals, leading to a confrontation. Reports indicate that the group assaulted him before fleeing from the scene.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, particularly whether Hickman’s status as a professional football player played a role in the incident.

After the assault, Hickman was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated and released later that day. He is reportedly stable.

Hickman, who went undrafted from Ohio State, is coming off a successful season where he started all 17 games for the Browns. Cleveland’s defense was quite strong, and Hickman contributed with 103 tackles, 7 passes defensed, and 2 interceptions.

Despite the team’s 5-12 record, Hickman’s performance marked a significant improvement in his career, having joined the Browns after the draft and making his NFL debut in 2023.

As a restricted free agent, Hickman faces an important offseason ahead. The Browns have the option to make one of four bids that would give them the opportunity to match any offers he might receive from other teams.
