Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell’s Youthful Poetry Uncovered

A recent report from the Daily Mail has brought to light that Eric Swalwell, a Democratic Congressman and current candidate for governor of California, authored provocative poetry in his younger years.

At the age of 19, while attending Campbell University, Swalwell contributed to a literary magazine. One of his poems, titled “The Hangover in Burgundy,” depicts a couple engaged in passionate intimacy on a hotel rooftop, vividly described as having “shapeless and spectacular” experiences with “violent movements of their limbs and nails.”

In the poem, the narrator expresses sensations akin to being “bitten by a vampire.” A striking line reads, “While I screamed,/She curled her lips against mine.”

The narrative continues with imagery of the couple physically entwining, “until the veins rupture and explode…for a bound mouth cannot speak of separation.”

Further along, it describes a scene filled with chaotic emotions: “And there was a formless, magnificent beauty. A storm of limbs and claws. She ran after me, and I ran after her, and she ran after me.” The poem concludes with reflections on waking beside a beautiful yet disheveled woman, sharing a moment of simultaneous moans.

In response to the revelation of his past work, Swalwell took to social media, humorously downplaying it. He quipped, “You think my 19-year-old poetry is bad? Wait until you see my 12-year-old diary.”

Echoing his youthful self, Swalwell also commented on critics murmuring about controversial figures and cases, suggesting an ongoing discussion regarding the implications of his poetic expressions on his role in criminal justice.

He previously served as a prosecutor and has been in the spotlight for connections to activist causes. These reflective pieces resurface amid questions about his past rhetoric and its relevance to his current aspirations.

Earlier reports highlighted Swalwell’s alleged ties to Christine Huang, who was linked to Chinese espionage efforts. These interactions, which reportedly helped with his congressional campaign, were severed on the advice of intelligence agencies.

In 2023, the House Ethics Committee concluded its investigation into Swalwell’s relationship with Huang without filing further charges, despite ongoing public scrutiny.

In response to these controversies, Swalwell maintains that his connections were platonic and that Huang was a target of governmental espionage.
